Serving the Community and Pointing to Christ

Friend,

Community Outreach at SOS focuses on building loving relationships, holistically empowering families, and faithfully pointing our community toward the Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

We are thrilled to share the following community outreach update with you, written by intern Addie Farley.

SOS Missionary Anthony Basaba was joined by a team from Mengo Hospital on Tuesday, May 22 to minister to the people of our community through vision testing and treatment.

Around 9 am, the patients began arriving, overjoyed to be seen by a doctor near their own villages. They were given a soda and popcorn to enjoy while they waited; over the course of the next few hours, a total of 156 people were registered for the eye clinic.

Vision tests were performed on each of the 156 waiting patients.

Thorough time was spent with each person, hearing their concerns and addressing any questions they had about their eyes.

Although not much can be done for allergies, good information was given to help with the irritation and pain that is sometimes caused by them. Steroids and eye drops were made available for purchase to those who had irritation or allergies.

SOS was thrilled to have received generous donations of reading eye glasses of varying strengths and sizes. This allowed us to give out glasses to those in need throughout the course of the day. Community members with acute needs also received diagnoses from the doctor.

We now will have the opportunity to bring them to Mengo Hospital to receive the treatment and procedures they so badly need.

SOS Ministries strives to show the love of God to the people of Uganda. We seek to empower families in and around our community, therefore, it's critical that we attend to their physical health and well-being too.

In this small this way, a vision test and a pair of glasses allows us to love people well and continue pointing them to Christ.

Isn't this a wonderful story of how God is at work through an SOS community outreach program? Praise God for the opportunity to show the love of God to the people of Uganda!
