Legacy 2020

This is some text inside of a div block.

Dear Faithful Legacy Uganda Supporter,

As the US and the rest of the world begin to reopen and test the waters of this new normal, we wanted to provide an update on how things are progressing here in Uganda.

We are finally able to leave our property and reengage with our friends throughout Kubamitwe and the surrounding villages. Our missionaries and staff can travel to town for food and supplies, a seemingly simple luxury we have desperately missed. While various aspects of pre-pandemic life return, and for that, we are so thankful, it has become increasingly clear that some will not return as quickly. Both Legacy Uganda and Shepherds Training Center remain closed under the direction of the government. As a result of the significant disruption to this school year, we have canceled this school year and will essentially re-do this term once schools are permitted to assemble. Our teachers, administrators, and students are eager to return, so while this is a disappointing reality, we continue to serve our students, their families, and prepare some great initiatives anticipating their return.

Our Legacy Teachers and Staff

As a faithful supporter, you know and understand that the school ministers to the children and their families, yes, but also to our staff and teachers! As a country where stable employment can be hard to find, even for college-educated individuals, Legacy offers a fulfilling, ministry oriented place of work for our Ugandan staff. To work at Legacy, many of them leave their families and homes near the city of Kampala and move to Kubamitwe, a rural village. So, while our school is unable to meet, your continued support allows us to bless these dear servants as they remain employed, although engaging in a bit of a different work during this time. On behalf of the entire staff, thank you!

Legacy Secondary School

8 years ago, Legacy welcomed our first 50 students in Kindergarten. Each year, we introduce a new kindergarten class as that original class is promoted to the next grade. Right now, those students are in the 7th grade, we now have more than 400 students at the school! We praise God for blessing the efforts of the school thus far.As we look to the not so distant future, we are beginning to make preparations for the next big step with Legacy: a secondary school. Some incredibly faithful donors have provided a cornerstone gift to help get the project off the ground! While the COVID-19 situation has created some delays, we are now back to full steam and able to move at an even quicker pace since the school is not in session. With the new addition, that means more staff and more teachers. The current projects are focusing on adding housing for the staff that will teach and disciple these dear students. Keep your eye out for additional updates as progress continues.

Local Church

You know that at SOS Ministries, all our outreaches, programs, and ministries are anchored to the local church. We want people to bend their knee to Jesus as King, and the local church is a part of Christ's provision for that. At Legacy, that means our staff, students, and their families all fellowship with one another at the church. As the church also remains on a mandated hiatus, our elders and leaders scattered around the villages, have seen unique opportunities for quality discipleship. We praise God for blessing these efforts.

Legacy Sponsor Portal

We have been hard at work, creating a brand-new online sponsorship portal that will streamline your ability to update your sponsorship information and more easily communicate with your sponsored student and Legacy staff. The system is currently in a testing phase and will begin roll out very soon. If you would like to volunteer to test our new portal, click below.

These updates hopefully serve to show how your continued sponsorships support the efforts of Legacy even while the school is unable to meet. We are hard at work to serve these dear students and to serve you, our faithful supporters. We are so thankful to have you partner with us!
