Meet Dr Martin Mukubuya!
Well, 12-year old Martin isn’t a doctor yet, but he aspires to become one, and believes his dream will come true since he attends Legacy Christian Academy.
Martin is the son of Benard and Sophie Lubwama, members of Community Bible Church of Kubamitwe (a ministry of SOS). Martin grew up with his 5 brothers and 2 sisters in a neighboring village and began attending Legacy Christian Academy in kindergarten. He eventually became fluent in English and excelled in math and science. He is a typical Ugandan child who helps his family by fetching water from the village well and cleaning the pigsty. And like most African children, he washes his own clothes by hand from the water he retrieves from the well.
Martin loves his 6th grade math teacher, Teacher Sam, who makes math easy for him. He also loves science, which came alive for Martin when his science teacher reinforced his reptile lesson by bringing in a poisonous snake for observation! Fortunately, it was already dead.
Martin attributes his passion to pursue medicine to the excellent teachers at Legacy. He realizes that if he didn’t attend LCA, he would “have just been playing and joking with books, but not taking school [seriously]. I don’t think I would become a doctor. [To become a doctor], you need to study more and more and to care about books.” He is grateful for the focused preparation he is receiving at Legacy.
Martin wants to become a doctor in order to help people. God has given him not only a love for people, but even more importantly, a love for the Lord. Last year, on Martin’s twelfth birthday, he was sitting in church, following the preaching of Pastor Mark Rutuna, our Kenyan deputy principal of Shepherds Training College (another ministry of SOS!). Martin vividly remembers Pastor Mark’s message about the wrath of God. Martin knew he needed to repent in order to be saved from God’s wrath. He quickly approached his parents who led him to Christ. He continues to follow the Lord and to encourage his friends to do the same.
Martin is just one of many of our Legacy Christian Academy students who has had his life transformed with the opportunity of excellent academics and the influence of a strong local church. With the help of his parents, his teachers, and the generous supporters of LCA, Martin has every opportunity to see his dream of becoming a doctor come true.
